The most coolest place like ever. totally.

WORKOUT – Ran with Pam 10.0 miles/1:14  flat, no music, a little rain

I should have titled this post “I love taking pictures of myself”  because I do.

Dear Hand,

Please get yourself together and stop acting crazy.

Sincerely,

Your other normal hand.

It was great running with Pam because she really pushed me; my legs were tired but we finished with a 6:59 mile.  booyah.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After church yesterday morning (our church meets in a movie theater; try focusing on God with movie theater extra butter popcorn smell wafting through the vents….) we decided to go out to Mother’s Day brunch somewhere.
Marni was really rude and didn’t get me any sort of gift, but brunch made up for it – we went to the Ramos House Café in San Juan Capistrano.  One of the most interesting restaurants I have ever been to.  amazing.
The-Ramos-House-Cafe
The owner John Q. lives in the tiny little house that was originally built in 1881; he bought the house about 15 years ago, restored it and created a restaurant outdoors under the patio.  The coolest part is that you can go in and hang out in this 100 year old house while you wait for a table!
ramos-house
I felt like a total creep peeving on his living quarters, but it’s all part of the charm and he invites everyone in – southern hospitality at its’ best.
These pictures are from google images, but obviously it all looks the same.  We sat outside to the right of the house under the awning:
Culture2
Mother’s Day brunch was not cheap, but it was so so good and different in the best way possible.  It is just a really interesting place with a lot of history and fantastic food.
Since our wait was over an hour, I started out with a bloody mary that had so many accoutrements it would be a full day’s meals for LeAnn Rimes: there was a fried scotch (quail) egg, crab claw, and pickled green beans.
All the drinks come in canning jars:
Jaymo took a few phone pictures because I forgot my camera at home.  I never do that; I wasn’t thinking straight since I was still obviously butthurt over Marni not giving me a Mothers Day card….
“Everything is made from scratch.  Herbs are grown in the garden.  Wines are kept in the cellar.  Ice cream is hand turned out back.”
The fountain outside:
The food was kinda like Southern-Cajun-New Orleans style.  For example, JJ started with cinnamon apple beignets that were like hot apple donuts balls dusted with angel smiles.
We both said repeatedly that we wished our moms had been there for the meal… mostly to foot the tab…  i’m kidding.
If you are ever in San Juan Cap, you have to check out this house/restaurant; it’s seriously so cool.  Like almost as cool as I am.
Do you have a running buddy?  Who is it?  Do you guys run faster together or enjoy your time and go slower?
That bloody mary might be the greatest thing ever. Sign me up for two of those!
I run with a running group and tend to run my average pace, I think people run slow to stay with me though! :)
YOU AND PAM ARE SO CUTE. GEEZ.
I usually run better without a running buddy right now, because I need to go slowly and find my own pace. Y’heard?
Dang 6:59 mile. Thats fast! I havent ran that fast since they made us do it in gym in high school! Do you need home address for the convention or e-mail?
My running buddy is my crazy border collie, CB. He always pushes the pace when we run. Sometimes we even do sprints in the middle of 5 mile runs !!squirrel!!
You and Pam are the cutest! And stellar athletes–love that you two push each other!
Cooper took me for a run, but failed to get me a card too–he did take a big dump for me…
My recent running buddy is running her first marathon, so it is nice to support and encourage her!
I can’t get over that bloody mary! I can’t believe how much food is in there! That’s a whole meal for most of us! Put enough vodka in there and you could convince me I ate a whole meal with all of the debris left from the pieces!
My running buddy is my dog! He is a Vizsla and has never ending energy. Seriously-13 miles in and he is still pulling on my leash…now if only I could race with him…
Brandi May 9, 2011 at 9:43 am
That bloody mary is no joke. Wow.
I have 150 running buddies. Perks of running with a huge running group! I’m at a weird pace where I’m either pushing my pace with someone or taking it super easy. Thats okay though because I really enjoy the everyone’s company and encouragement!
I have such a wonderful running partner! I am so sad because she is moving in a few weeks to go stay with family during her husband’s deployment to Afghanistan. It’s sweet because we both have five kids very similar in age! We are more take it easy and talk while we run which is a good thing since we have to stop so many times to pick up binkies, G. I. Joe’s and sippy cups!
Nice work this morning ladies! That is FAST!!! AWESOME!
Love the review/photos of the restaurant. Wonder if the wait is always super long? San Juan Cap is not a far drive from our house so we may have to venture. I’ll pack activities because lord knows an hour wait turns into interesting times with 2 small kids!
I have started doing my long runs with my running ministry at church. Last weekend my friend Stacey and I took our sweet time. It was a hilly, hard course and we were both beat.
I like running alone so that I can focus and just be alone. I like running with someone so that we can push each other when we need it! Just when you think your legs are going to fall off you have someone telling you to run faster!
Reply
Sarah May 9, 2011 at 9:58 am
MY running buddies are my boyfriends sisters and dad. It depends on the day and which of us are together whether we push each other. But it is always nice either way, catch up with each other or run so hard we can’t chit chat!
Thanks 4 running with me SR…despite “Monday Madness!!” :) :)
My pup didn’t get me a mother’s day present either :( , but we did get mother’s day brunch with the inlaws and dinner with my folks, so that made up for it.
My running buddy is my husband, but lately I’ve been weirdly attached to the treadmill, so we haven’t run together in a while.
I don’t have a running buddy, I like to go at it alone with my tunes. Plus, I’m self conscious of my pace so I don’t want to slow anyone down!
Reply
Misty May 9, 2011 at 10:10 am
I run with a running group two to three times a week. I have to be honest though, I prefer to run alone. I like the quiet and the ability to push myself or ease up as needed.
I like running by myself. I run with a group on Saturday mornings for my long run (its supported with water and gatorade every 2-3 miles and different interesting routes all the time), but I dont want to talk to anyone and I really dont like anyone running ‘with’ me either. I generally just like all the other people so i can play a game to see how many i can catch and how many i can beat. So pretty much every Saturday is a race for me :)
Reply
Anna May 9, 2011 at 10:19 am
Hey SR, what time do you typically start your morning runs?
Reply
SkinnyRunner May 9, 2011 at 10:58 am
it all depends, i like the earlier, the better. this morning was 6:45am. but sometimes its 6 and sometimes it 8. the later i go, the less hard i run and more likely i am to cut it short or skip the run. im a complete morning person!
Carrie @ Confessions of a Dietitian May 9, 2011 at 10:22 am
I want to go to there.
I run alone. I guess I could find someone who could walk along with me at the same pace as my slog. Maybe my husband could walk backwards or something.
I think all drinks should be served in canning jars. Ideally, ones you can keep. I have an entire collection that takes up a shelf in our very cramped kitchen.
Yeah, I am one of those turtle pace kind of runners.
My running partner is a great friend. She pushes me and makes me do speed work! We both have 4 kids so we are up at 4:30 am running and have to be back to get kids ready for school! Solo runs are nice but running and chatting with someone is very enjoyable!
I have a running buddy =D I love it! We’re really good about keeping each others pace and pushing each other not to stop and not to give up. I’ve run most of my fastest times with her, and it’s always great fun. We don’t talk, just run, and it’s a blast though :) It’s definitely helpful!
I wish I had known of this restuarant when I was in San Juan! I was there a few years back. My cousin was married in Huntington Beach and we drove down to SJC and toured Mission.
My dad has been my running buddy. We’ve done all of our long runs together for the marathon we are training for. We will run the marathon together too.
SR you are way too fast for me. I couldn’t do a mile in under 7 minutes even if crazed lunatics were chasing me… I’d just give up. I tried running with my dogs before but they are couch potatoes and died after one lap around the block (almost had to go back to pick one of them up in the car). Wish I could be there for the convention in Vegas!!!
I always run better with a running buddy these days! Years ago, I couldn’t run with anyone else, I liked going at my own pace, whenever I wanted to run. Now, it’s like if I don’t have a running buddy, I’ll just randomly stop. It also helps if the person is a little bit faster than me, so I always feel like I have to keep up with them!
Once her littlest hits six months, she swears she’ll be back out with me. I can’t wait, I really need the support right now. I’m always looking for new running buddies, especially for weekend long runs. Anyone in the VA-DC area??
My running buddy is my friend Gigi. We run together but usually dont talk much during the beginning of the run. On the way back though when both of us are tired, we stop our ipods and encourage each other by saying (and sometimes yelling out) stupid and silly things. She makes me push my pace. Speed is something I don’t do well when running alone.
Oh yes and running buddies are definitly required for long runs, they help keep me motivated while also distracting me with good stories. Gotta love long runs, and then for speed workouts they are great for a little friendly compitition. :)
I usually run with my bf or my sister. When I’m running long distance it’s usually alone. I think I do so much better when I run with someone. When I run alone, I concentrate too much on my breathing.
I’m definitely picturing you and Pam running that fast mile while holding hands — did I get that right? I hope?
Running partners are GREAT for running fast and sprinting — I make my boyfriend run intervals with me, because it becomes a fun game, but I will never run like that without him. For long runs though, I’m 100% a loner. I like getting lost in my brain or my ipod.
