WORKOUT – Elliptical 60 mins
I really wanted to run today; it’s another day in paradise, perfect weather for running. But I can also feel my thutt (thigh/butt/area where I had piriformis) ever so slightly so it’s definitely a no running day. Yes, you may call me the Butt Whisperer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of the time I think I’m in decent shape, all that running a marathon a month thing… But my arms are super sore from yesterday’s event!
Who knew that tricep dips on a chair could be a new form of torture?! Out with the waterboarding, in with the dips. Watch out terrorists, we will cut up and define those arm muscles like nobody’s business.
In other un-fitness related news, my future sister-in-law bought her wedding dress yesterday! She knew what she wanted; I think it was the first store she went to and one of the first dresses she tried on.
So let’s talk dresses.
Tell me about your dress. Did you know exactly what you wanted or did you have to shop around for months? How many dresses did you try on?
If you’re not married yet, do you already have in mind a particular dress or do wedding dresses scare you into a trembling heap of taffeta and lace?
I was one of those brides that knew EXACTLY what she wanted and if anyone got in my way, I was going to shank them… I knew I wanted this particular Monique Lhuillier dress and it was my must have: I’d go homeless for the next year but I had to be homeless in this dress.
This post talks more about celebrity Lhuilliers.
So tell me about yours! If you’re feeling sassy, send me a picture and I’ll post it.
I bought my wedding dress on my first shopping trip too! its a gem! lace, beading, sweetheart strapless, small train… just perfect! i cant wait to wear it!
My dress was the 5th dress I tried on in the first shop we went to…and I still love it 4 years later.
Since I am Indian my three day wedding will make me homeless.
Hmmmm I am not married yet, but my wedding dress is going to be the same one my grandmother wore when she got married (1950) and that my mother wore when she got married (1975)!
i knew exactly what i wanted…and it did not exist when i got married (2006). i didn’t want any sequins or rhinestones…just simple and classic with a pop of color. so finally i sat down with my seamstress and designed my own dress and she created it, classic, clean lines and a fushia sash…it was perfect!
I only tried on 2 dresses before I bought mine. But I saw one online for less than 300 bucks plus I had a discount (crazy!) and knew I had to have it. As soon as I got it and tried it on, I knew it was “the” dress! And I was able to return the other one!
Butt Whisperer, your wedding dress is GORGEOUS!! You looked SO beautiful in it!!
I’m not married, but I definitely have a dream wedding dress in mind! Well at least I did until I saw yours, and now my mind has changed!
Ohhh I do love some tricep dips. As for your dress…. is that the one with the deep, v-neck back? If so, I hate you. I admired/obsessed over that dress, but knew my back would never do it any favors! You, however, look stunning in it!
All I knew is that I didn’t want my dress to be strapless.
I bought the first dress I tried on at the first store I looked in. I tried on about 4 others afterwards “just in case” but I kept coming back to the first one.
Have you done a wedding recap post? I love your dress, you are a gorgeous bride! Your hubby cleans up nice too
I am not in the market for a wedding dress but have modeled in several wedding shows.Maybe I’ll be sassy and send you a photo from one of the shows! My favorite gown would be long, fitted through the waist with a mermaid style skirt and kick train.
Love your dress! Mine – it wasn’t so much as I had to have it. I had a tight budget and I found one that struck my fancy. A strapless white dress with a turquoise bow around the waist. I ended up getting the dress in off-white/ivory and kept the bow. I’m not the most traditional of girls and I wanted color at my wedding. The dress was affordable, I loved it, and it suited me perfectly – people said the turqoise was part of my personality. All my bridesmaids had that color but different outfits. I was a happy bride!
i knew that i wanted a strapless. no questions. my dress that i bought was one of the first ones i saw, but i didnt go back to try it on for a while.
Haha your wedding dress is my dream wedding dress! All lace with straps and a big v in the back. I love the simple, classic look.
Your wedding dress is gorgeous! Have you looked into Yoga for your thutt issue? I’ve had hip pain that was deep that I couldn’t relieve with a foam roller or sports massage. Yoga has been the only thing that gets it stretched out. Plus I thought I was too antsy of a personality for Yoga, but over time I’ve come to enjoy the stillness and the challenge of a new pose.
I love that dress. I want a mermaid close fitting style dress with a sweatheart neckline. I haven’t figured out the logistics quite yet though ha. I’ll be the same way-homeless in my dress ha.
I tried on over a hundred dresses. I narrowed it down to five, and then let my fiance see the five. He hated three of them, so that made it easier to choose. He and I have very different ideas about dresses, so it was important to get his point of view, because, they, there are dresses I could have worn that he would not find me beautiful in. I save those types of dresses (mostly super poofy princess dresses) for costume parties.
My dress was actually very similar to yours and it was exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted an ivory lace dress that was not strapless but sleeveless. However, I entertained the thought of trying on other dresses. So, it turned into a really long process but I found the exact dress I wanted in the end.
Not married, but we wore wedding dresses to our high school graduation (weird St. Louis Catholic school tradition). So I was trying on wedding dresses at age 18! I ended up getting the first one I tried on
I tried on so many dresses, prolly almost 50. I went to 9 different stores before I found the one I wanted. I knew what I was looking for just could not find it all in ONE dress. Can’t wait for it to come in so I can see it again!
That dress is absolutely gorgeous! I won’t be getting married for at least another five years, but I already have a dream dress bookmarked:)
My dad’s wife made my dress because I couldn’t find the EXACT dress I wanted in a store. It came out perfectly!
I had an idea of what I wanted, but when I walked into the first bridal store, I saw my dress on a display mannequin. It ended up being the 5th dress I tried on.
My butt hurts today too. lol I was just foam rolling it. Classy.
I knew the style of dress that I wanted and tried on about five before I decided on it. It’s a Maggie Sottero.
Your wedding dress is beautiful!
I bought my dress the 4th time I went dress shopping…it was actually my second dress to buy! The first one was fancy but not “the one”…after a trip back to the boutique to return the dress, and another trip to a different boutique, I settled on MY dress. <3
Love tricep dips!
I heard Anthropologie is launching a line of wedding dresses, can’t wait to check them out. I am simple though, I’d get married in a white sundress on the beach.
I’m still shopping! I found a Disney inspired line from Alfred Angelo, and I’m am so ancy waiting to get back to the States to go try it on! I love wedding dresses!
Yours was so beautiful!!
The thought of a WEDDING scares me into a trembling heap!! But your dress is very pretty!!
I can’t send you a picture, because my fiance hasn’t seen my dress yet (we get married June 4)! But I LOVE my dress. I knew what I wanted as well… strapless, all lace, not too white. My dress is all ivory lace with champange under it.
My dress was actually the 2nd dress I tried on but only because my mom insisted that I try on a hideous mermaid dress that made me look like I had hips from here to Denver. By Oleg Cassini- simple top of ruched ivory satin, with a big tulle bottom, almost no train. My perfect princess wedding dress.
So perfect in fact- NO ALTERATIONS! Just a bustle and I was done!
I knew what I wanted. A lot of “stuff”. I wanted it to be busy, with lace, and I wanted it to emulate Jessica Simpsons when she married Nick Lachey. Corny, I know.
Click here, scroll a bit…tons of pictures!
THUTT. I like that! I have piriformis issues, too, and I always say that my back is acting up, even though it’s really my butt. I get a few too many awkward looks when I say my butt is really sore haha
No wedding in the future for this girl!
I actually designed and sewed my own wedding dress. Like I had time for that. But I’m pretty cheap and it cost under $70 and was pure silk, even the lace on the lining.
My wedding dress was the 3rd one I tried on and I knew right then and there it was the one for me. I fit perfectly. It was amazing!! I wish I could wear it every single day. It was a maggie sottero and actually was only $700. The best $700 I have ever spent
I love your dress by the way, you look beautiful!!
I loved my dress and would wear it every day if I could!! I felt so beautiful in it!
I didn’t know what I wanted when I went dress shopping with my mom and sister, but I ended up buying the first dress I tried on. However, when I tried it on the first time, I didn’t know that it was going to be the one I bought. After trying several others on and realizing how much I liked the first one, I went with it!
I love, love, love your dress! It looks so great on you! I wore a Maggie Sottero dress. I’ll e-mail you a picture.
I’m obsessed with your dress. I want a Lhuillier dress!! I always have!!
I’m a costume designer, and while the dress shopping was so exciting for me for obvious reasons, I had a really hard time finding what I wanted in my price range. I really wanted a Lela Rose dress (I love all of the fabric modification on her dresses and hand embellishment), but my budget was like $1500. I went to about 5-6 stores, and tried on upwards of 40 dresses, before I found ‘the one.’ I knew that I wanted to feel like Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly- classic and elegant, and I finally felt that way after trying on a Jim Hjelm dress at a trunk show in Costa Mesa, CA. I will send you a photo, but it was trumpet shape (something I knew I wanted), with beaded organza flowers over the bust, a charmeuse belted waist, and stone and chiffon rosettes at the waist. I knew it was it the moment I tried it on! It was $1000 over my price range, but it was clear I wasn’t going to find this at a lower price point, so I went for it, and never regretted it!
I think the comment I tried to post disappeared. At any rate… here’s my dress, on me, and the headpiece I made (and the lucky man who stole my heart!)
I had a destination wedding in Mexico (where my hubby and i met on spring break) and was lucky enough to have two dresses. One was for the actual wedding and another was a “trash the dress dress” that I got to play with in the ocean and the pool. I’ll see if I can figure out how to post links… i don’t have a blog so this may be a bit tricky..
first is my water dress…
and here’s my actual dress.. hopefully you can see it!
i cant open your pictures! but you can send them to me at skinnyrunnerblog@gmail.com if you want.
I had an image of what I wanted but was having a really hard time finding it. I actually ended up getting a bridemaids dress in ivory – many of the actual wedding desses were too fancy for my likings. Besides, hello cheap wedding dress!
i didn’t exactly have THE dress in mind but my bank account sure did. i liked maggie sotero and amsale…my bank account liked davids bridal. my choice came down to 2 dresses, both under $600 and i chose the one that was less trendy and more likely to look just like the picture. (the other one, that i sometimes wish i had chosen had puffy fabric on the skirt that i thought would look squished if not perfectly steamed).
but what i did know absolutely without a doubt was that i NEEDED a cathedral veil. i’ll send over a pic – one of my faves to prove just how right i was on this necessity.
Eeek i love this post!! I thought I wanted a Vera Wang dress and ended up with a Carolina Herrera, in the back of my mind I always coveted the Carolina “style” and knew I wanted something slightly classic yet modern. It’s mermaid style and I CANNOT WAIT TO WEAR IT!!!!!!!
xoxo
My dress was the third one that I tried one. I knew that I wanted something with a sweetheart neck line and lace, and that’s exactly what I got. I ended up buying mine off oncewed.com and it was a great experience (and saved me money!)
http://thebestthingislove.blogspot.com/2010/10/wedding-wednesday-family-time.html
I think I tried on more than 50 dresses. I really didn’t know what I wanted and just kept looking. I was very happy with the dress I ended up buying, but the new Vera Wang’s for David’s Bridal made me want to marry my hubby all over again.
I knew what I wanted. I wanted a 2 in 1 dress. So it was a long straight dress and then there was an additional skirt that attached at the waist which had the train. I loved it b/c at reception I took off that extra skirt and I was in an evening dress ready to dance teh night away….LOL But I did try on a few different styles prior to that one to make sure that was what I really wanted!
Now I need to buy a wedding dress for our vow renewal on our 15th anniversary (2012) and I have no idea what I want. It will be in Hawaii on a beach so something light and simple but haven’t found it yet!
i don’t know what i want yet but your dress was beautiful! I love the sash thing
I’m not even close to being married, but I KNOW I want a non-strapless lace dress with an open back. Strapless is gorgeous on lots of people, but I feel like so many people do it and I want something really special on my wedding day!
I “knew” what I wanted, but then I tried them on and that was a big negative. I was a 2 dress bride. I bought one and then when it came in I hated it. I had a melt down in the dressing room and ended up buying a 2nd dress.
First dress I tried on! I just heard on “Say Yes to Dress” that about 80% of brides will buy the first dress they try on.
Oh I totally knew I wanted a lace Pronovias bride – I was going for the whole Spanish bride thing!
And I’m soooo sending you a couple of pictures right now!!!!
Okay – I sent the pictures.
And since I didn’t actually answer your question – I only went looking for a dress a couple of times. I was all ready to choose another one (was going to buy that day) when my dress (“Malibu”) was brought in.
Turns out it had just arrived that day! And I LOVED it!!!!!
I always thought I knew what I wanted – strapless, with fabric that gathered at one hip with a big skirt, but big because of fabric not toulle. I’m nowhere near getting married, but my best friend is and we’ve been going to bridal shows and now I’m kind of In to the type you wore. I saw one that was absolutely gorgeous at one of the bridal shows and I took a picture, I will try to send you (if I can find it!)
How did you get back to running after having piriformis? I’ve been dealing with it for a while now and everytime I think its gone it comes back again.
P.S. Your dress is absolutely gorgeous!!
I have no idea what kind of dress I want, but as soon as the BF proposes I’m applying to be on Say Yes to the Dress!! Ha
I knew exactly what dress I wanted and I loved it..but I HATED my hair. I need a redo!
I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted. I knew I wanted simple, but that’s as far as I got. I went to one store and tried on about 10 dresses, but ended up getting this awesome Jenny Yoo dress. It looked like a really pretty toga. Pretty sweet. Here’s a picture: http://joggingwithfiction.blogspot.com/2010/12/mike-and-kari-sitting-in-tree-part-3.html
do you ever have days where you wake up and just dont want to run? if so how do you motivate yourself to do it anyways? and do you drink any soft drinks?
We planned a destination wedding on the island of St. Lucia and got married barefoot on the beach. I wanted a simple dress and searching was frustrating until I saw the dillard’s website and knew immediately THAT was the dress! I went, tried it on and it was perfect! Surprisingly, it was a Calvin Klein and only $150.00!!
DANG! I knew I should have commented sooner! Anyhoot-
I got married last summer but I did not ever find a dress I fell in love with, I fell in love with bits and pieces of dresses, which is how I came upon my dress, I had it custom made!
Let’s back up to my sister’s wedding: she fell in love with a Monique Lhuillier as well, however it was just out of our budget. The thing is she couldn’t find it remotely close to where we lived at the time to try it on (Memphis) but still, she knew it was THE dress. She googled the fabric (lace) and asked about seamstresses and came across Barbara, the dress maker who actually lived down the street from our mother. My sister got something better than Monique, she got a custom made wedding gown.
Fast forward 5 years and it’s my wedding. I knew immediately that Barbara would be THE one making my dress, but I had no clue what I liked or what I would love to wear. After a few months of searching, I found 2 dresses I wanted to combine-the top of a Monique and the bottom of a Vera Wang, which was not out yet. Even though I hadn’t tried these dresses on, I knew it was MY dress. I eventually found the Monique dress (for the top) and it was gorgeous. The Vera, was something short of a miracle….
So Barbara and I designed the structure of the dress, the neckline, the shape, etc.. The design of the dress came together in the final month and a half.
Vera had some trouble recreating the dress I had duped as “THE DRESS” and as a result, it did not come out into the store until March-I was getting married in June. This probably would have made most brides nervous, but not me. I knew Barbara would not make anyone of her clients look bad (unless they chose something unflattering, which really isn’t her fault). In March I went back to Vera (after stalking them since November) and finally tried on the dress to figure out how it was made.
The end result was so much more beautiful than I ever could imagine. Barbara made my dream dress; she made the wedding! I am so grateful for her!! Every Bride needs a Barbara in her life!
your dress is grooooogeous
my dress is here:
http://eatingmachine.wordpress.com/2010/09/22/cinderella-get-married/
i got it at a brides against breast cancer gown sale for some ridiculously cheap price, like $250ish?
Oh everyone looks stunning! I dropped the ball and actually missed one of your posts–could’ve sent you my pic too!
Thanks for sharing a beautiful collection of your readers Sarah!
You are a stunning bride!!
–sorry for the double comment. Blonde move!
LOVE your dress! I am getting married in September and have a dress oddly similiar to yours with a keyhole back and a little more of a sweetheart neckline. I had no idea what I wanted as I wouldn’t let myself even purchase a bridal magazine until I was engaged. The dress that I’ve chosen fit perfectly, and it was the one!
sorry for the late post…internet was down yesterday!!
Nice post! I love your dress! You looked so gorgeous on your wedding day!! J’s a lucky guy!
I had an appt at a bridal boutique to try on dresses – I had my eye on a Vera Wang I’d seen in a magazine – but that morning I was running errands with my mom and we stopped in at this shop next to the drycleaners….I ended up buying the very first dress I tried on. It was exactly what I wanted – and 50% off.
I tabbed pages I liked in magazines and then tried on dresses. Shopped a few places and found a few dresses I liked a lot. Then went back to see what I’d marked in the magazines just to make sure there wasn’t anything else I had to try before buying one of the ones I’d liked at the shops. Saw one dress I’d marked in almost every magazine. Went to a shop specifically to try on that dress and it was the one.
So this is random, but my best friend got married last fall, and she wore her mom’s wedding dress, but had it altered. The alterations made it look almost identical to yours (plus she has the matching ribbon). Every time I see your wedding pics I think of that. You both looked crazy beautiful!
I completely agree!! When i get married the most important aspects are the dress and cake…and by cake I mean the extra mini cake that is reserved for me only lmao. I LOVEEEEEEEE your dress. You look sooo beautiful!! i think you should of taken a “bloopers” picture with running shoes and the dress
Skinnyrunner bride.
I’m having a destination wedding and I recently found my dress. It’s a Justin Alexander dress. I knew it was “The Dress” because I felt like me in that dress, but the bride me…if that makes sense. I put a teaser up on my blog and I will post the pictures after the wedding.
Your dress is exactly what I wanted – lace, v neck, sash. Interestingly, it’s the opposite of what I chose, which was the first dress I tried on. I can’t wait to wear it.
Seeing everyone else’s dresses in your posts made me decide I need to participate. Plus, it means I get to look at pictures of my dress again.
