Food trucks and running bears, oh my

by SkinnyRunner on December 29, 2010

It’s snowing!  The people in the Midwest who had about 18 ft dumped on them have nothing on us.

I don’t know how we’ll ever get out of this mess.  We’ll probably have to be dug out by rescue crews.  We better stock up the house with Y2K survival necessities because that is at least a dusting of snow I see.

Wreck ‘em Tech, baby.

Remember that the 13.1 Marathon Los Angeles is coming up on January 16th?

Series-LA_in_WV

It’s going to be in Santa Monica and benefits World Vision (we sponsor a little girl in the Dominican Republic through WV).

What’s even better is that there’s going to be gourmet food trucks like The Sweets Truck, Streets of Thailand, Get Shaved, Downtown Dogs at the finish line!

Another fun thing that is going to happen is the “Beat the Bear” Karhu 5k.

“Because Karhu mean’s ‘bear’ in Finnish, The Karhu 5K, a division of the 13.1 Marathon® – Los Angeles invites racers to come out on January 16th and try to "Beat the Bear".

Any runner who "beats the Karhu bear” during the 5K and crosses the finish line before the bear, will be presented with a ticket good for a FREE pair of Karhu running shoes of their choice from the Top to Top specialty run store.”

“The Karhu 5K will share the same start and finish as the 13.1 Marathon® – Los Angeles, beginning on the Venice Boardwalk and ending at the historic Windward Circle in Venice for an unforgettable race experience.  Amidst ocean views participants will enjoy a Tinseltown themed half marathon and Karhu 5K celebrating the best of Los Angeles.”

So if you can run a 5k faster than the bear, you’ll get a free pair of Karhu shoes!

The Karhu 5k costs $20 right now and you can register here.

Could YOU beat the bear??

Are you in the PNW? I live in Oregon and I could have sworn that I saw a few snowflakes this morning. Of course, the first thing I did was check our inventory of canned goods… :)

Sarah,
On Facebook, 13.1 just listed a post about this blog. You should be getting a lot more hits and will be even more popular then before! I think you should get a pair of sunglasses on so you aren’t recognized in airports!!!
Love this blog

Beat The Bear sounds awesome! I’m going to seriously consider that race, even though I’m pretty sure I don’t stand a chance of beating the bear, except with a baseball bat.

Now I’m even more excited for this race! After I run the half I’m going to proceed to stuff my with a cupcake. The food trucks will also help me convince my sister and boyfriend to come watch me.

I definitely couldn’t beat the bear, but I would be proud of myself for trying. After all, slow is the new fast. At least in my crazy little world it is. :-)

Oh man… That kind of weather would be sure to cause 50 car pile ups in southern Cali!

I probably could not beat the bear. I ran a half on Halloween and there was this girl in HUGE care bear suit that was way too big on her and she beat me.

Sarah, are you going to run the surf city marathon Feb. 6th? Run with me!! (if you’re not registered already…) :) Stay warm!! It’s raining here in S.Cal!

Is the fee $20 right now for the 5k or $25? I’m not too far from LA so I might just sign up for this 5k. I need a new pair of running shoes :) I wonder how fast that bear is too…..

How fast does that bear run?!
I wish I could run as fast as him!
I am definitely intrigued though, could you distract the bear or something? That would help.
