It’s time to go running and sweat out gravy and whipped cream so let’s hear it Running Tuesday! What are you doing today, what’s your workout like?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey would you like to run a race…. for free?? I’ve got an entry that I have to give away today so this is gonna be fast and furious.
Christina from 13.1 LA has offered a free entry for the 13.1 LA Half Marathon on January 16, 2011.
I ran this race last year and had a fun time running along the beach. This year’s race will start at 7:13am in Santa Monica on January 16th.
If you registered today, it’d set your Christmas fund back $80 but you can run it for free!
All you have to do to enter is comment and tell me,
What’s your favorite race that you’ve run?
Thanks to Christina MG for the entry!
Today’s Cat lady Blogs is Jenn from Knack for Nutrition!
After returning from the land of bread and cheese, I did something kind of nuts: I registered for a half-marathon. You see, I do not have the ‘running gene’ nor have I ever run anything more than a 5k.
But my weight was at an all time high and I decided to use the looming deadline as motivation to get my butt in gear.
Over the course of the past several months, I documented every high and low of training on my blog. And since I like dramatics, you know the retelling of my first failed 6 mile ‘long’ run includes as many water works as the day I crossed the finish line. Speaking of which, crossing that finish line was one of the most incredible experiences.
These days you can find me unsuccessfully trying to secure employment so I am not living in a box on the road come December while gearing up for my 2nd round of training.
That’s right, I am doing it all over again at the SunTrust National Half next March! With 20lbs. less of me to carry across those 13.1 miles, I anticipate a much faster race, so long as I can avoid the lure of cheap beer on Thirty Thursdays. Oh, college.
Thanks Jenn for the email; now everyone head over to Jenn’s blog and say hi!
Favorite race – such a hard call to make. There have been so many really great ones. If I had to pick a road race it would be the Seattle Marathon because each year I get a PR on the course and got my BQ there this year. For a trail run I would pick the Silver Falls Half Marathon – gorgeous scenery and a small, intimate race. For a relay I would pick Cascade Lakes Relay – extremely well organized, incredible scenery, and just tons of fun.
Enjoy your run!!! I did the stair climber and elliptical this morning. Might use my bike trainer after school:) I would love a free entry to that race. My favorite race has been the Top of Utah Marathon. Amazing!
1,700 meters of lactate interval swimming – sounds dirty, doesn’t it?
3.5 miles of running
I think all of my turkey and dressing are gone, but I can’t stay out of the candy drawer!
My favourite place that I have run is in the mountains in Utah!
Favorite race: Grand Rapids, MI.
I ran 4 miles this morning. Thanks to the Mexican last night, it was a sluggish (and noisy) run.
my favorite race is my first half marathon that i ran in october. i pushed through hot summer runs, 5am training, and a knee injury, but finishing those 13.1 miles in under 2 hours was the sweetest victory. i would bottle up that feeling and sell it alongside your ny marathon feel-good bottle and the seattle feel-good bottle.
My favorite race would have to be the Philadelphia Marathon. It was my first, I knew the course and it felt so good to be completing my first marathon in my hometown.
Today I did a great mish-mosh of cardio (running, kickboxing, stairs, etc) before work. I was huffing and puffing for 40 solid minutes. Love it!!
My favorite race was the 2005 Portland marathon! It was my first marathon, too! I would love to run this race!
2.05 miles this morning before 6 a.m. in breezy 30 degree temps– stupid enough to wear shorts. But rocked the arm warmers
My favorite race I ever ran was a half about an hour away from my house in Akron, OH. It was so well-organized, huge crowd and it was a perfect day!
My favorite run is actually a CHKD run in May. It down by a lake and absolutely beautiful scenery.
Thanks for posting my Cat Lady Blogs submission! My running Tuesday brag is that I PRed my 5k Turkey Trot! Yay for getting faster!
My absolute favorite race was my very first marathon in March 2009–The SunTrust National Marathon.
You run all around DC, it was a gorgeous day, it was my fastest 26.2 to date, and I was just really happy.
And really? It’s pretty awesome to run around our nation’s capital!
San Antonio Marathon will always be special as it was my first.
Did a slow and cold 3.5 miles in the snow with the dog. I spent more time trying not to fall on the ice than really getting into the running but it was nice to get out of the house
Great giveaway. I only wish I was going to be in that area to run it or that I was prepared haha.
My favorite race would have to be last year’s Hope and Harmony 5k in Irvine. It was pouring rain (at times I was running through puddles up to my shins) but I ran the best time of my life and it was all for my best friend’s mom who was sadly in the final stages of breast cancer. It always feels good to run with a purpose. Plus I got a cool (ok wait, no it was plastic and lame) trophy for 2nd place!
my workout was a last real workout before WR: a GMP that i was VERY HAPPY with. i pretty much nailed it and it was a great confidence booster before leaving on friday.
my favorite race…hmmm that’s a toughie. i think it was the covered bridges race in NH that i’ve run every year. it’s soooo beautiful as well as a challenging course. so when i ran well on it i was very pleased.
although don’t enter me in the giveaway because, while my bank account wouldn’t be set back the registration fee, the travel would deplete my already anemic funds hahh!
My favorite (and first) race was the Santa Barbara Half Marathon earlier this month!
My favorite race would have to be The Race to Wrigley. Its a short race, 5K but the atmosphere is amazing! You run down the streets of Wrigleyville and finish through Wrigley Stadium home of the Chicago Cubs! It’s also for a great cause, I raised over $1,000 for the Children’s Memorial Hospital last year… And, if your a Chicago Cubs sports buff.. you will enjoy the fact that Hall of Famer Ernie Banks starts the race!
My favorite race so far was the Two Cities Marathon & Half in Fresno. It was highly organized and you can’t beat the price.
I celebrated Running Tuesday yesterday by running a half marathon just around town.
i have no idea what my fav race is. nyc would be at the top thats for sure. but had chicago been cold that would prob been up there too.
today is hot yoga day and i was supposed to run 3 miles this morning but i stayed in bed instead. VERY WINDY and cold here!
I am running the LA half either way, but I guess a free entry wouldn’t hurt!
My favorite race up to now is the Nike human race in 2009. It was held at midnight, around USC and downtown LA. Thing is it was too crowded and not really organized so it was by far the worst race to do any sort of record or time. So, it kind of forced everybody to just run for fun and it really was so much fun! So many students and people and the atmosphere was just amazing!
The KY Derby Festival Marathon & miniMarathon and the Triple Crown races leading up to it. I love how it inspires so many non-runners to train and it’s super fun!
I am getting married in 4 days so my run will be a 5 mile de-stresser.
My favorite race is the Disney 1/2 that I ran this year. Its my favorite because it was my first 1/2 marathon.
My favorite race I’ve run is the Chicago Marathon. I ran it this year, on 10-10-10. It was awesome, and the crowd support was unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Loved it!
My favorite so far is the San Dieguito 1/2 Marathon mainly because I love checking out the real-estate along the course. I’m doing the half in Vegas this weekend so my answer may change after that. I would love to win entry to 13.1 LA.
Today I zoned out on the treadmill for 4 miles.
Half marathons are definitely my favorite distance but I have to say My favorite race is the **Bolder Boulder**.
Its a 10k and I highly recommend it. There is nothing better than running in one the most beautiful cities in the US. The race is huge with tons of people who just want to have fun and run. They have local bands throughout the race so you don’t need any music
Plus you get hungry/thirsty along the way fun home owners offer hotdogs, breakfast burritos and beers just in case. There is also numerous slip and slides along the course just in case you get over heated. You finish in the University of Colorado Stadium
which is magnificent with fans cheering you to the finish. Very pro runner like. I have done it for 6 years and don’t plan on stopping
My favorite race I have run is the Beach to Beacon 10K in cape elizabeth, Maine. It is my favorite not just because it is in my hometown, but it was founded by my idol Joan Benoit. The race is fun and challenging and I love that it’s an annual traditional to run with my father and sister.
The Run Around the Lake marathon in Wakefield, Mass. It starts at 7 oclock at night. Really neat!
My favorite race that I’ve run would be the 5k I did with my mom. I wasn’t running for a time, but to give her encouragement and support. She never ran before, but after training for the race she did the 3 miles in 40 minutes and didn’t stop running once!! (:
My favorite would have to be the San Francisco Marathon. The first half of it is so picturesque, I don’t know how I didn’t stop and take pics every quarter mile! Ran through the marina, across the Golden Gate Bridge and back through the Presidio and Golden Gate Park!
My favorite race was the St. Louis marathon last april. Weather was gorgeous and my parents came to watch.
I will be doing a four mile hill work out after work. Fun times!
My favorite race was the market to market relay where 8 people ran from Lincoln, NE to Omaha, NE. It was a great time and I ran some of my fastest miles there. Plus I basically met my team at 6 in the morning, and then spent over 10 hours in a van with them
cat lady blogs are so fun! Love reading their stories.
Favorite race: I would say either the Huntington Beach half (beautiful scenery of mountains and ocean) or the Indy mini-marathon (35,000+ and a lap around the Speedway!) – LA would be a great race, hope you’ll pick me!
Did a 30-min yoga podcast focusing on flexibility – this gave my joints a bit of a break, will do 3 miles tomorrow morning!
I’ve only really run a couple of races, but my favorite so far was this year’s turkey trot. I finished about 15 minutes faster than the last time I ran it two years ago.
My favorite race was the first half marathon that I completed! It was pouring rain and freezing cold, but I barely noticed since I had so much fun.
I think we have the SAME favorite race – the Dole Great Race of Agoura Hills. However, I’m not nearly as ambitious, and stuck to the road 13.1
Would love to run this race!
My favorite race was the Avenue of Giants Marathon this past May. It was gorgeous running through the redwoods!
And today’s workout was P90X plyometrics- I’m taking a running break!
My favorite race was Bostons Run to Remember 1/2 marathon. Great scenic run through Boston!
My most favourite race I’ve run is the Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. It’s in mid-Sept so the weather is running-perfect. Its a beautiful, out and back along the waterfront. The crowd was fantastic and drove me the last 2k. Loved it! But honestly would love the LA Half more. I went to Cali when I was 13 and fell in love. Cried the entire way back to Ontario and haven’t ever been back. This would be an amazing reason to return.
I haven’t run all that many races, so I’ll have to go with the Victoria Marathon since it was my first.
Today’s running = 4 miles of intervals on the treadmill. Thought about outside, but even staring at nothingness sounded better than 30 degree temps in the dark.
I haven’t run a race yet– and the 13.1 is going to be my first half! I was all set to sign up for it but was waiting on the funds. Pleaseeeee give the free run to me
My favorite race was my first half marathon! It was the Lake Natoma Four Bridges Half and it went better than I could have ever imagined. I’d love to do the half in January & I sure do love this blog!
Great job on your Seattle run! Wish I could run half as fast as you!
My favorite run so far has been the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon. It was my first . Not the greatest course but I ran it in honor of my dad. He passed away when I was 4 (26 years ago). I don’t remember much about him but I know he was an awesome marathon runner.
My favorite race was this year’s Malibu half marathon. I know it wasn’t your favorite race:) but it was the first half marathon ever for my husband and I. I am an avid runner but before training, my sweet hubby had never run more than a 5K. I was so excited to share that amazing accomplishment with him and I look forward to a lifetime of running with him!
My favorite race was my first half marathon the ING Hartford Marathon. The race was a reunion with my friends from college we all had a blast
I ran a slow 3 miles because I’m recovering from a stomach bug/wicked weird hangover and because in general, i run slowly. I love this blog! And my fav race was the turkey trot i just ran in Bayport NY for Smiles Change Lives. The crowd was awesome and people along the way all came out of their houses and cheered us on.
My favorite race was the Marshall University half-marathon, my first half-marathon. I ran it Nov 7 in Huntington, WV. I would love to run the LA half if I won. It would make a nice excuse to visit California too.
ran 15 minutes walk/sprint intervals, then did arms, and tonight spin!!
Favorite race would have to be any half marathon or marathon in Chicago: my favorite city. As a California girl, I’m always anxious to go back, but you gotta love that you can run a half marathon in January in sunny Cali!
My favorite race?
I fundraised for a full year when I was a high school kid to pay to go to Australia (from California) to run a 14k. The race itself was fun, but the real payoff was my first trip abroad with my little runner friends.
My running Tuesday will be the second run of the first week of Couch to 5K. Yep, you read that right, SR, I have finally read your blog long enough to motivate myself to get back into running, and this is where I’m starting. Whew.
My favorite race was Florida Ironman. I loved every torturous second of the race and I am already plotting a way to do it again.
The half marathon for Lost Dutchman is my favorite. I love them all but that is my most fav out of all!
ran 3 miles, and then added 1 of interval sprints. today running felt SO good.
My favorite race so far would have to be Palm Springs Half! It was on the smaller side with only a couple thousand but big enough so it wasn’t boring, couple with sunny weather and Valentines weekend.
St. George Marathon– the downhills are awesome!
My favorite was this week at the 10K Dana Point Turkey Trot. I had fun during the race, I ran with my girlfriends and enjoyed taking pictures with them.
I’m hoping to run another half marathon before my wedding next year
My fav race was R’n'R Seattle’s inaugural race. I trained for it with my Bestie who lived in Boston (to my Omaha) and we met there to race. It was so awesome to see her and see Seattle…oh yeah, and finish my first marathon!
Running Tuesday! Ran 7.3 miles on the treadmill, with a ladder workout thrown in. I was a sweaty mess by the end. Why does my gym insist on keeping it 72*? They could save money and save me energy (and other people working out) if they kept it lower, around 65-66*. Who knows?
keepin it real here, I’ve run almost every day of the year since I was 16 or 17 — making it 10 years now — but I have run very, very few races. Why? BECAUSE THEY AREN’T FREEE! meanwhile, running out my front door IS free.
My fave race was the Los Angeles Marathon in 2005, back before the course was changed from “stadium to sea”.
My favorite race was probably my first half last February… the Cowtown Half in Fort Worth. My parents drove down from Iowa (12 hours)to watch me.
my favorite race was the 5M turkey trot I ran last week! next step is 13.1M!
My favorite race is the North Olympic Discovery Marathon — takes place in Washington, about 2 hours outside of the city, near the Olympic mountains. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! Very scenic course — pretty small event — Loved it!!
Hands down – the new LA Marathon! I ran it last year w/my best friend. We’ve ran lots of races together, but something about this course and day was amazing. It has such great support we were laughing and smiling the whole way!
I went to a one hour boot camp class and ellipticalled for 15 minutes.
My favorite race is Grandma’s Marathon & Half Marathon in Duluth, MN.
My favorite race is currently Malibu Marathon. I don’t travel to races too often so I run a lot of local races which sooner or later become old. The Malibu course was along the ocean, there was some nice views. So until I run Big Sur next year, this is my current favorite.
I would love to win this entry, I don’t currently have anything lined up in January yet and I would love to get a half marathon in.
My fave race would have to be my first marathon…San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll!
my favorite run is the San Diego R&R marathon. Awesome course! Congrats on your run in Seattle. See you in Vegas!!
Oh man, my favorite race was my first – an 8k through downtown San Diego. When I started to train, I couldn’t run more than a minute and I thought I was going to die. Two years later and I run at least 5x a week!
So far, I have only run the Nike Women’s, so by default it’s that
.
My favorite was NWM… Syke. Probably the Cleveland Marathon this year – it was the first time I’d been home since moving to Cali. I cursed and limped most of the way, but seeing friends & fam at the finish made it worth it
I ran intervals last night on the TM and it felt really good. My favorite race is the Jazz Half Marathon here in New Orleans – my first half marathon. Running my next December 17 – Ole Man River Half.
Too cold to run outside yesterday so did 2.25 on treadmill. Looking a doing a race in Spring with friend – any suggestions
My favorite race is the Vegas marathon! Wish I was there this year to run it!
I live in Canada and it’s -25 with windchill today so I chose the treadmill and I did 2.28 miles!! during my lunch hour.
