WORKOUT – Ran on hotel TM, easy recovery 7.1 miles/62 mins
I surprisingly feel really good today, no soreness or anything.
After grubbing we walked around Times Square and shopped a little.
Jaymeezy wanted to stop in for some dessert, but we were going to have cheesecake after dinner so we just took pictures like total tourists.
Saw the Naked Cowboy doing his naked thing.
Saw Dylan’s Candy Bar. Didn’t go in. sad.
We met our friends Reese and Jim (Reese became a first time marathoner yesterday! Woohooo!) and had dinner at Patsy’s Pizzeria.
SO.DANG.GOOD. Jaymo said their pizza was way better than Lombardi’s.
We ordered 2 large pizzas and 2 salads to share and destroyed it all. I think I could have eaten even more, but I guess they were trying to starve me.
Thanks Reese and Jim for dinner and a good recommendation! Next time you’re in town, we’ll take you to this great, cheap pizza place…. it’s called Famous Original Costco. $1.50 a slice.
Jaybob wanted a slice of New York cheesecake so we went to Carnegie Deli afterwards; honestly, a bust. Not worth the money. I get the idea that it’s a total tourist trap, but I could be wrong. There’s a first time for everything…
The cheesecake was really, really good, but everything else was pretty average and the service was poor.
We were going to split 2 pieces and the waiter told us we had to order at least 3 or spend $12.50 per person.
This 7 layer chocolate cake was like what you’d find in a grocery store for $2.99 a slice. I told the waiter it wasn’t good and his reply was that I should have ordered something else. really?!
The coconut cream pie was decent but nothing exciting or worth the price. Although Reese sure looks excited….
After we were done, the waiter actually told us we could tip him (he wasn’t joking either) and when we left the money on the table, he made us wait so he could count it out. seriously? lame.
Oh well, we had some dessert and enjoyed it with friends. Sometimes that’s all you need. and a larger size of pants.

I didnt realize there was a legal obligation to tip bad service. I’m glad your run was at least enjoyable.
You should’ve gone in Dylan’s candy bar, it is AWESOME. Although my friend bought a small-ish size bag of assorted Jelly Bellys. $22 later, she’s eating golden jelly beans
You definitely save money by buying candy elsewhere, but the store is awesome.
yay for no soreness! you are a champ
and most excellent post-marathon eats. i can’t wait until it’s my turn to do so next month!
Sounds completely amazing!
ha!!! That’s not “lame” it’s New York for ya!! I know it was lame but that no bs stuff is pure New York at its finest!
You should have tried for tickets to see Dave Letterman, freaking hilarious and a fun time. Next time.
Great job on your marathon! I can’t believe you aren’t even sore…you are in amazing shape!! You have me craving some good pizza now! I really do love Costco pizza ha!
Hey! I’m not sure how much longer you’ll be in NYC, but you should try Junior’s if you’re looking for some delicious cheesecake. It’s the bomb.com!
You are a much better person than me. I previously worked in a restaurant for 7 years, and that server would have gotten an earfull and no tip, with an explination. I think I may be seriosuly upset with this small portion of your day!
NYC is kinda lame, actually. It’s all glitzy and “forward” but the people in the service industry (waitress/waiters/concierge are really horrible at what they do.
too bad the eats weren’t quite what you had hoped for…. bummer.
If you are looking for another deli, I really liked Izzy & Nats. We found it when we were in town last year for the marathon. It is down near Battery Park.
Oh man this makes me want to go to NYC so badly. For the best cheesecake in town you have to check out Juniors. It’s heaven in the form of a fattening creamy cake form.
ok i am about ready to quit reading your blog
… who the HAY-ELL runs 7 miles the day AFTER a sub 3:30 freakin marathon???
really SR, cant you keep some things to yourself? you make the rest of us look REALLY bad.
you are not human.
Rockstar (n) one who completes a pain-free (?!) 7.1 mile run the day after running a sub-3:30 marathon. (see also: SkinnyRunner)
I love, love, love that you had pizza twice in one day! Pizza is one of my favorite food groups.
I can’t believe your waiter at Carnegie Deli. Sheesh–some people!
That’s funny.
JEALOUS of…
You ran the New York Marathon! and you get to run races all the time. I wish I could race every weekend.
AND
your dessert menu this week! I LIVE for dessert. I could eat a piece of cheesecake or cupcake everyday! I was almost drooling look at the reese cupcake.
I think we would have a lot in common!
Some people are lame. I actually don’t like tipping! You look so cute in all of your NY outfits!
I don’t care what you say. Your race outfit was so cute. You look super fit and lean in it. I could never pull off that look. Oh, and I don’t know who the weather dog is but love the sunglasses too. So cute!
I also went to Original Ray’s and also thought it was nothing special. I think people tend to blow a lot of stuff out of proportion these days. Ditto with Carnegie. That waiter was rude!
You ran a marathon…you get at LEAST one day of eating a ton of whatever!
Cheesecake is my favorite…I would have been a very sad panda if my highly anticipated NY cheesecake was anything short of phenomenal!
That Patsy’s is my boyfriends favorite NY Pizzeria! My post marathon dinner was at Scarpetta in Meat Packing! Yum, AND I GOT ENGAGED AFTER THE RACE!!!!
sounds like the perfect post marathon: pizza, sights, and more pizza
Food looks delicious, New York looks fun and fabulous, but the server sounds terrible! I don’t know what I would do in that situation. Where I live sometimes people are overly friendly as in the bus drivers say good morning and good bye to you when you get on and off the bus…Oh Canada
Congrats on finishing the race! I am SO jealous!
i read your blog all the time because i think you’re insane and hilarious and i just checked in and saw that not only did we both run yesterday, but you were THIRTY SECONDS AHEAD OF ME! that’s nuts. you’re fast. and funny.
The problem is most def the Carnegie Deli. Total tourist trap. I was a waitress in nyc for 11 years-we would have never treated people that way- especially not after a 3:29 marathon!!! Congrats! Enjoy what time you have left in the city
yo sr! the peeps with all the complaints about NYC are on my Facebook…not any blog writers.
