Chocolate!!!

by SkinnyRunner on March 3, 2010

The word of the day is MAIL.  Not MALE as in male review, as in the Chippendale’s, as in my husband’s favorite Vegas show.  Ok, not really.

Yesterday’s word was pictures, all pictures of Mammoth.  Today is all about awesome stuff that I got in the MAIL while I was gone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently I read about a company called Chocomize.  The idea is similar to MixMyGranola, but granola is so 2009.  Here you customize and create your own chocolate bar.  Custom Chocolate Bar??? Genius.
It was started by 3 young guys, and even more cool is that they are dedicated to being a socially responsible company; they give 1% of proceeds to select charities.  Have your chocolate and help others at the same time?  That’s a wrap right there.
I recently contacted the company, fooled them into thinking I had millions and millions of viewers, and asked to review a couple of their products.  I picked out 2 combinations, and they were sent immediately to me.  Score!
At Chocomize, customers can select their favorite chocolate base (dark, milk, or white) and then add up to five out of 100 fine ingredients to create their choice chocolate bar. This allows for more than 10 billion possible chocolate combinations. In other words, if every citizen of New York City ate one different chocolate bar a day, it would take over 3 years until two people had exactly the same chocolate bar
Chocomize uses only premium Belgian chocolate and the finest ingredients for its chocolate creations, be it Pecan Halves, Banana Chips, Pineapple Dices, 23 Karat Gold Powder, Rose Petals, or Bacon.
The website is super easy to use and fun; I’m actually pretty jealous that I didn’t think of this idea.  Or that the guys haven’t asked me to become an official tester of all chocolate products.
I decided to go with 2 different bars both with the dark chocolate base.  My first bar is named “La Vida Dulce” or the sweet life.  I love candy. way too much.  So much so that my dentist cringes every time he sees me.
This chocolate bar is PACKED with so much candy I think I teared up a little when I first saw it.  I definitely had a moment.
If you caught me on the right day of the month, I would gladly trade my husband, my BQ and my smart car for one of these.
La Vida Dulce = Dark Chocolate with Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Runts, Gummi Bears and Strawberry Gushers.
The first thing I noticed was that these bars are BIG. and heavy.  We’re talking like a massive pound of chocolate and candy here.  Or so it felt.
This bar is jammed with candies, not just sprinkled with a few things.  When you get an add on, they don’t scrimp with it.
The dark chocolate itself is very good, not so dark that it’s almost bitter but not so milky that you feel like you’re eating a stick of butter.  You can taste it and tell they’re using high quality Belgian chocolate and not the leftover mini candy bars from Halloween 2007.
My second bar is called “The Health Bar”.   Instead of a Heath bar, get it?
It has Dark Chocolate with Goji Berries, Pineapple Dices, Papaya Dices, Coconut Flakes and Sliced Almonds.
I’m almost sad to say this, but this bar was even better than La Vida Dulce bar!  The nuttiness of the coconut and almonds mixed with the sweetness of the dried fruit is fabulosity to the maximus.
Again, this thing is massive and chock full of toppings.  The toppings guy must be in a generous mood because these bars are filled to the brim with goodies.
Once you create your dream bar, it’ll probably be around $5-$6 dollars, but how many of us have grabbed a tiny chocolate bar at Starbucks or Whole Foods that’s at least $3 or $4?  You might as well make your own design (maybe with organic flax seed and organic cashews??) and get a huge, handmade, customized bar just the way you want it.
I think this would be a really fun idea as a gift – what boyfriend or husband wouldn’t want to try a bacon and gummi bear candy bar?  What, only mine?
Maybe as a chocolate birthday gift, a chocolate wedding favor or chocolate corporate gift:
You can even create your own custom packaging, custom graphics and obtain exclusive rights to your custom creation!
Everyone in your office would love you, even the guy you just fired!
Obviously you can tell I’m fired up about this product and idea.  I just love to hear entrepreneurial success stories, especially about young people following their dreams and making it happen.  Plus I have a borderline unhealthy obsession with chocolate and candy.  And this is such a fun thing to do that you have to try it.
(The Romance Bar with Dark Chocolate, 23 Karat Gold Flakes, a Chocolate Butterfly, Strawberries and Rose Petals.  If this doesn’t get you mood, nothing will.)
So Chocomize is offering all SkinnyRunner readers 10% off!  Just enter the code skinnyrunner10 at checkout.
BUT, it gets even better: because I recently passed the half a million hits mark (thanks Mom for checking my site 472 times a day!), I’m going to give a $10 Chocomize gift certificate to one random winner!
All you have to do is go to their website, create your dream bar and then tell me in the comment section what it is. OR tell me an occasion that you’d create one of these bars for.
I’ll randomly pick the winner by tomorrow night.
Sweet custom chocolate bar dreams!!
*Edited to Add: I just ordered 2 bars (for my family I swear!) and the coupon code gave me $5 off, definitely more than 10%.  Better take advantage of this!
My bar was dark chocolate with pecan halves, cranberries, coconut, mango, and blueberries… although I was really eyeballing the violet petals… and I think it would be an awesome Valentine day thing for the kids. I’m sure my youngest would love teddy grahams in her chocolate!!!
Holy Schmoly!!!! That La Vida Dulce bar is crazy! I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as too much chocolate! EVER! I will definately be ordering one.
Loved this post, because I def. love chocolate!! I checked out the website and decided to order a bar….I was going to try and make a “healthy” bar, but then I decided that I might as well order something super yummy and bad for you! I ordered a milk chocolate bar with sliced almonds, pretzel pieces, M&M’s, strawberry gushers, and gummy bears! Can’t wait to get it in the mail!
This giveaway is so freakin’ sweet I can hardly stand it! I’m sitting in one of my classes on my computer drooling just looking at their website. You MUST choose me for that gift card, because I will die if I don’t have this chocolate bar I created, but I really don’t want to spend money on it…I call it the “Toasty Teddy S’more-sterpiece”: milk chocolate with mini marshmallows, peanut butter drops, caramel pieces, butterscotch, and graham teddies. Oh. Mah. Gah!
PS – you’re hilarious! LOVE your blog – you are a huge inspiration for me and my sister to try to be funny (well, even funnier than we are already) on our new blog. Keep it up! :)
Reply
Amanda March 3, 2010 at 8:54 am
Too many choices!! I would choose dark chocolate, dried strawberries, gold flakes and coffee grounds. What a fun website!
Love your blog, I’ve decided to train for a half marathon because of you!
Wowsa, Chocomize is pretty darn awesome! I am definitely a candy girl like you, so I think I’d have to have sour patch kids, pop rocks, and Nerds (My all time favorite!). My teeth hurt just thinking about it. (in a good way though! haha)
Erin March 3, 2010 at 9:00 am
This company is awesome! I love dark chocolate so my bar was dark chocolate, dried strawberries, pineapple dices, organic date pieces (why do I love dates so much?!), sliced almonds (because I love almonds in chocolate) and organic flax seeds (because today is omega-3 awareness day!).
Reply
Jamie March 3, 2010 at 9:02 am
ur weird kiddo…sour gummies plus choco? even i can’t fathom that pairing.
if you want to taste beautiful chocolate in a totally overwhelming orgasmic indulgence – stop by cheesecake factory and pick up a slice of the godiva cheesecake. the chocolate flavor is bold and deep, and 100% amazing.
Reply
DEFINITELY the the Health Bar!! going there NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply
Chelsea March 3, 2010 at 9:26 am
I really like the look of the healthy bar, so I ventured over to peek at the other options. I ended up creating the exact same one! I only wish there were white chocolate chips to add…never can have to much chocolate- uh, right?? I heart chocolate big time, so my special ocassion would be my “special women time of the month”…oh to much information, sorry. I just really crave sweets at that time!!
Reply
kshadburn March 3, 2010 at 9:30 am
I would totally make like 10 of these bars, and I might give one to my fiance…maybe!
But this actually would make a great giveaway for the wedding…hmmmmm…
This website is amazing! I made one using the dark chocolate and added pretzels, oreo pieces, m&M’s, peanut butter chips and toffee pieces. So excited for this bad boy to come and so excited about the give away.
Reply
WendyF March 3, 2010 at 9:36 am
Love the idea of custom chocolate bars.
My ideal:
White chocolate, coconut flakes, sesame seeds, crystallized rose and violet petals, flax seeds.
Reply
Beth March 3, 2010 at 9:36 am
Wow, bacon bits?! That’s crazy!!
So for my bar, I’d have to start out with dark chocolate (of course) add some pecan halves, cranberries, dried stawberries, and some marshmellows for good measure. My back up bar would be dark chocolate, toffee, caramel pieces, and ground coffee. I have about 50 other combinations in mind so that $10 would only be the start…
Reply
Melissa March 3, 2010 at 9:56 am
I’d get the milk chocolate bar, oreos, sprinkles, marshmallows and m&ms!
These bars look so good OMG.
Reply
Kelly March 3, 2010 at 10:05 am
Their website will not let me add my ingredients? Not sure what I was doing wrong but.. I was trying to go with: dark chocolate, banana chips, sunflower seeds, caramel pieces and sea salt! It all looks mouth watering!!
Reply
Sarah March 3, 2010 at 10:54 am
just keep clicking on them, it takes a second for the ingredients to pop up on the side bar. its a little touchy, i know.
Reply
Jamie March 3, 2010 at 10:12 am
ok – i ordered 3 bars. jamie bar: mac nuts, cinnamon, sour cherries. hubby bar: cardamom, hazelnuts, caramel pieces. bachelorette bar: hazelnuts, gojis, cinnamon, rose petals (cuz her middle name is Rose).
that was fun – good idea! thanks for the tip!
I would do milk chocolate with jelly beans, skittles, sour patch kids and nerds OR white chocolate with cantaloupe, papaya, pineapple, and banana, OR white chocolate with peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, and oreo pieces.
My mouth literally started watering when I saw your “Candy Bar”. I am a candy-aholic. I cannot live without some sort of candy fix. In fact, if I am in a bad mood, or if I am having a bad day, just give me some candy and suddenly the world is a happier place. I like to pride myself on being healthy- exercising, eating right-but candy is my weakness! I made my own version of the “Candy Bar”: sour patch kids, nerds, gummy bears, skittles, and runts. And I am thisclose to ordering it. Thanks for the awesome website!
Drooling just imagining it.
Longtime lurker, first time participant, and I’ve got to say – that is an AWESOME idea.
I ordered 3 – Tropical Island because we just got back from a vacation in Hawaii and we’re already have island withdrawals; Spicy Special Bar because it’s my 38th birthday on Saturday and I’m one spicy broad; and I Feel Lucky Bar, because I’m going to Vegas for a long weekend to celebrate said birthday with my girls!
The discount basically knocked out the shipping, bringing my total for 3 bars to a very reasonable $9!
My milk bar contained marshmallows, peanut butter chips, oreos, and pretzels. The husbands bar was milk w/ gushers, sour patch, and gummi bears. Can’t wait! :o )
Hey girl~I absolutely LOVE your blog and read it everyday…you are a total inspiration and great motivator for me…I am in the process of training for a 1/2.
Anyways, your giveaway definitely pushed me to leave my first comment…who doesn’t want free chocolate.
I went on the site and I actually ended up ordering this combo and I CAN’T wait to get it! My mouth is watering! It gave me $5 off too so my total was like 15 cents before shipping! Thanks girl!
Milk Chocolate/Teddy Grahams/Marshmallows!
YUM!
I LOVE the idea of this company!! I think this would be a great party favor for a shower, possibly because I am in two weddings so showers are on my mind right now. I, like you am a chocoholic. This site could be seriously dangerous!!
OMG, what a great company! Your bars are amamzing! I would totally have to create a bar like your second bar but I would have almonds, coconut, , butter toasted peanuts and roasted pistachios!
Reply
Dima March 3, 2010 at 3:12 pm
What a great idea! A chocolate bar with my husband’s favorite ingredients (a variety of nuts and fruits) for his birthday would be very appreciated!
Reply
Blair March 3, 2010 at 3:16 pm
My combination:
- dark chocolate
- hazelnuts
- goji berries
- banana chips
- graham cracker
This is dangerous, I could spend all day making different combos. And I’d like to say I’d make custom creations for my friends for their birthdays or something, but what fun is it to put together a mouth-watering chocolate bar, have it arrive in the mail, and then have to give it away without even a nibble off the corner first? I’m also an only child, so sharing in general is something I struggle with on a daily basis, but chocolate just ups the ante tremendously.
The LA VIDA DULCE bar is rocking my socks off. I need to see this! Thanks Sarah!
I called mine the “run from the law” bar. not because I’m on the lam, but because I’m a law student and a runner. Get it? I think I’m cute! Any-who, my bar looks fab. And I will be nashing on it after my upcoming finals!!!
Reply
louisianagrown March 3, 2010 at 6:17 pm
I’m thinking my base would be dark chocolate. Then I’d do something sour, some dried raspberries, and white chocolate chips. Nothing too original or ridiculous.
Reply
Stephanie March 3, 2010 at 6:41 pm
This is torturous because I’ve banned chocolate from passing my lips until after I return from vacation where I have to frolick around in a swimsuit. So the occasion would be post vacation bliss! My bar would be dark chocolate with organic date pieces, peanut butter and toffee pieces…
Sour patch kids + gummi bears + dark chocolate!
This is the coolest thing EVER. I just wish I would have thought of it so I could make millions of dollars off of women with PMS.
I would order the milk chocolate and add marshmallows, oreos and pop rocks. I can’t imagine pop rocks in a chocolate bar. This is like your own Willy Wonka factory.
It went something like this: WHITE chocolate base for sure. Plus macadamia’s, salt, and maybe a little something carmel-y. dieeee
I have been reading you blog for a while now and thank you for sharing all of you running tips and awesome life stories! I don’t love running but it’s definately growing on me – thanks to you!
Ok….on to the even better stuff….CHOCOLATE! My bar would be milk chocolate with skittles, strawberry gushers, strawberry gushers (yes I meant to write it twice…I LOOOOVE them…but they won’t let me add them twice haha!), runts, and nerds!
The occasion for the candy would be Easter Sunday since one of the things I gave up for Lent was chocolate.
This is gonna be the weirdest/sweetest candy bar I’ve ever had: white chocolate with sprinkles, dried strawberries, butterscotch, corn flakes, aaaaand a candle. That’s right, a candle. And I’m going to light the candle on fire and eat it. On fire. And send you a picture.
I would probably buy one of these for after a run. I like to make chocolate a daily occurance especially after a long run in Chicago. The kind of run where your snot freezes to your face, and you forget that you haven’t felt your legs for the past hour. Those are the kind of runs that deserve chocolate :)
Bill March 4, 2010 at 4:50 pm
