A road trip, let’s not get LOST

by SkinnyRunner on February 4, 2010

I want to talk about LOST just to be cool, but I’ve never seen an episode and don’t really want to so I’m just going to say something vague like, “Oh yeah, I’m loving that last episode of Lost, yeah totally” just so I sound like I know what’s going on.

Evangeline Lilly from the cast of Lost, I think.  Maybe not.  I don’t know.  Is she on the show anymore?

Right now we are on a long road trip and I’m blogging in the car! We just got a MiFi card so I can get online along with Jaybob.

Can anyone guess where we’re going?  I bet you’ll never get it.  like in a million gajillion years.

Ironically, that is exactly what the backs of our heads look like when we drive.

Road trips are what all the cool kids do:

Paris and her pink Bentley probably road trip all the way from Beverly Hills to Rodeo Drive.  yeah, I know, so far.

Kristin Davis looking all dressed up and pretty is probably driving cross country to rub it in Kim Cattrell’s face that she’s 400 years younger than her.

Britney Spears, who knows where she’s tripping to… maybe a salon to fix her nasty perma weave?

And crazy Gwyneth Paltrow, I’m sure she’s road tripping  across the nation proclaiming her love for her latest detox because she feels so “pure and happier and lighter”.

Since it is the lovers’ month of February, now is probably a good time to start sucking up to your significant other if you want something romantic or sparkly come the middle of the month.  Me?  I’d like this precious little gem:

Because nothing says “I love you” like punctuality, right?!

Another good thing to do is review your New Year’s Resolutions to see how you’re doing and if you deserve a Valentine’s chocolate heart or a Valentine’s brussel sprout.  Me?  Here’s mine:

1. Run at least 3-4 marathons in 2010.  One down in January so doing pretty spiffy here.

2. Run a sub-1:40 half marathon.   Check this off the list: SoCal Kaiser Permanente half 1:39:56

3. Get our mortgage under XX number.    It’s getting there slowly… we’ll be mortgage-free right about the time we move into assisted living.

4. Volunteer in some capacity at least 1x a month when I’m at home.   I didn’t make this goal.  But I did just contact the church about a volunteering opportunity.

5. Receive some sort of income outside of fishing, whether it be from blogging, writing, running a drug ring, whatever.   Unless stealing cash out of Jay’s wallet counts, this one is a fat no.

6. Read through the Old Testament in the Bible.  Learning to read was a little slow on the uptake, but I’m halfway through Exodus now so doing decent.

All in all, I think I’m doing good, or at least I’m not a complete and abject failure.  I’ll settle for that.

Question: Have you ever done a detox?  Would you?  What do you think about them?  Healthy or just another pseudo-healthy way to starve yourself?

I think it is hilarious that you want to talk about Lost cause you feel like you should. I have never watched that show and everybody at work was freaking out about it and I was like, “What’s the big deal?” haha…oh well. I am completely freaked out by Detoxes. If I don’t eat I get so sick and shakey – I know I could never do it. I mean, our bodies are meant to be nourished, right?

I have done a couple of detoxes. In the form of juice-fasting for 15 days and then one for 21 days. I’m mixed on what I feel about them. It is crazy how good you feel in the first week or two but then you can start to feel pretty crappy when the ‘healing crisis’ or whatever they want to call it comes up.

But in the first weeks, your skin goes amazingly clear and I swear your skin practically glows. I just feel happier. It’s weird. I think I may have some undiagnosed food allergies though so that could be why I feel better. Oh yeah and you do lose a lot of weight, pretty much a pound of day, alot of it though is water, glycogen, etc. You do lose fat as well though. The problem is after the fast, your body tries to eat everything in sight for about as many days as the fast, therefore weightloss is moot.

Why am I always one of the first to comment? Oh, cause I have a lezzy crush on you. I have considered a ONE DAY liquid detox before..but by lunchtime I’m starving. I think liquid cleanse drinks once in a while are good…especially if you can’t poo

I think detoxes are BS and usually a codeword for “I want to crap a lot and lose ten pounds.” It’s not a sustainable way to lose weight in most cases. I have a BS in dietetics and am working on my MS in nutrition; I’ve never heard a reputable person promoting detox-type diets. Eat a healthy diet most of the time and you can skip the 3 week juice diet. People are crazy! Have a great trip.

I haven’t. I read some much about it in the tiblids. But I doubt I will ever do one. I think they are a great way to starve yourself.
Evangeline Lilly is gorgeous. My sis is a huge lost fan.
I tried, it didn’t really work. I ended up skipping too many episodes cause I was too bored with it.

I have never done a detox but one of the women I work with has. She was good for the first week or so but then she said she got really bloated and started feeling bad. I think they would be fun but they kind of scare me.

if you have functioning kidneys and a semi-decent liver then you are detoxing every minute of every day :o )

I don’t watch Lost either. I caught about half an episode a few years ago and didn’t find it remotely interesting, so I stopped watching. I’m not much for dramas on TV though (unless it’s Law & Order:SVU or NCIS).
I probably wouldn’t do a detox. I get migraines if I don’t eat around the same time every day… I don’t know what my body would do if I tried to detox it.

Sounds like you’re doing good on your goals and it’s only been a month!!! I think detoxes are you usually quasi healthy ways to starve. There’s nothing healthy about not eating real food for however many days. If you’re talking detox like eating super clean and healthy (fruits, veg, etc) then maybe I can be persuaded it’s good ;)

I’m gonna guess you are headed to Mexico for a weekend of tattoos and salsa?

I’ve done several juice detoxes, the longest one lasting 5 days. It’s a good way for me, when I have been eating crap, and indulging in too much alcohol to reset my system, so I stop craving fried chicken for every meal, etc.

I don’t watch Lost- if I wanted to be confused and think I’d read a book. Hee.

Never done a detox. Bikram yoga where I sweat out about 90% of my body weight is as close as I get. You still never told us where you are going on your road trip. Probably to get Lost on DVD so you can be cool.

detoxes kind of scare me so i’ve never done one. the best kind of “detox” is a good hard sweat!

detox diets are crap-as already stated above. no doctor (except a quack) would recommend one. also stated above – kidneys, liver, and the lymphatic system cleanse the body all day long. anyone who thinks a detox is good for them should reconsider what food is – fuel for your muscles, brain, heart, and organs. you either choose to fuel these systems with whole grains, lean protein, fruits and veg, or you choose to degrade these systems with crap. “juicing” for days on end is not fuel. there’s no scientific evidence that supports the claims of detox regimens.
