WORKOUT - Elliptical -30 mins/full body workout with ball and medicine ball
I hate to strength train which explains why I never do it. I’d much rather do cardio. BUT today I got down to business doing core work on the stability ball.
THEN I traversed into unknown territory: I started doing strength training exercises with a weighted medicine ball. Lunges, squats, bicep curls, rows, tricep extensions, all sorts of gross stuff that have names with words like “extension” in them. But it did feel good once I was done quivering….”involuntary spasms…. watch the show….”

This is from fitsugar.com

Tara Costa from The Biggest Loser last season started the show weighing 294. By the finale she had lost an astonishing 155 lbs to get down to 139. She currently weighs 164 lbs; the picture on the right is her now. She said that she’s “still battling the last 10 pounds” and she’d “love to live at 155-ish.”
This was her at last season’s finale:

Obviously when $250,000 prize money is at stake, the contestants are going to drop as much weight as humanly possible even if it’s not maintainable… probably similar to body building competitions where the competitors nearly dehydrate and starve themselves to look their leanest. Helen, the winner, was told by doctors that she was 15 pounds underweight at the finale.
So my question for no particular reason is: What do you think is a healthy amount of weight to gain or maintain for someone like Tara? We all aren’t Tara, that would be weird, we don’t know her body, and where it feels/works best, but what’s your opinion?
Tara’s 5’9″ and she’s basically gained 25 pounds since the show. She’s obviously fit as she just ran the NYC marathon in a respectable 4:23. Opinions???

Today is Veterans Day…
There is no greater gift than giving your life for something; today, appreciate your freedoms that we as Americans enjoy daily.
I’m going to exercise my freedom to laugh. Since it’s my birthday (not really) I’m going to take the day off from making fun of myself and Lindsey Lohan and instead going HERE. This will NOT be funny if you hate Batman or love socialism.
(Ok, I was going to link you to (what I think is) a funny, politically charged picture. However, reasoning got the best of me and I realized that over 50% of people don’t have the same political views as I do. And since we all know blogging is a popularity contest, I want people to like me. So I leave you with this…)

Because we all liked Lisa Frank at some point, right? Note to self: get rid of LF poster…. and beanie babies. Not cool anymore. Zhu zhu pets are what the cool kids have now.

For someone who is 5’9/5’10 myself, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the weight she’s at now. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what The Biggest Loser has done promoting healthy lifestyles, but the truth is they set up unrealistic expectations for others starting out on their weight loss. The weight they loses on the show would be pretty damn hard to maintain without the 24-7 professional trainers and nutritionists controlling all their activity and food intake. I think Tara looks AMAZING how she is now. Actually, you kind of look like her a bit (her fit self, not her large self of course). But anyway thanks for the post! Also, don’t forget to check out my runner’s giveaway/spread the word to your readers and help me spread the word for cancer awareness!

I think I don’t understand the question. I mean, my first answer would be that she should weigh whatever she feels is maintainable and healthy for her body. 139 for someone as tall as she is would be pretty thin, but that’s my opinion. I think she looks great now.
I also think that a lot of the BL contestants must have a really rough time once the show is over because they are back in the real world and no longer have time to work out 6 hours a day.

I think she looks good now, although it’s hard to say for sure, since the dress she’s wearing is pretty forgiving. She could probably stand to lose 10ish and look amazing. But I think her face/neck look too thin for the rest of her body in her finale picture.

she looks quite good now, but probably for her height, 150s would look/feel best. but who knows? not sure of her lifestyle and such…but she might as well go balls to the wall now, when she probably has the time and energy. me thinks that dress is flattering as well. but, so long as she eats healthy and still works out, so be it. pretty girl now matter.

I think your blog cracks me up more than anyone else’s that I read – haha – loved the Lisa Frank-esque pic at the end:-)

Oh my goodness! I miss Lisa Frank–those were the days!!
I think Tara looks really good now. 139 would be a bit too thin for someone 5’9″.

1) do you do lunges/squats AFTER running/elliptical? Or is it more upper body work?
2) my opinon: is it wrong to think that some people aren’t meant to be UBER skinny? For instance: hilary duff, margaret cho, STAR JONES.

I’m a firm believer that if she’s working out, eating right, and feels great (both physically and mentally), she’s at a perfect weight. I’m 5’7 and would love to see 120, but it’s just not in my cards. I’m a comfortable 135 and love food and working out and whatnot.
As far as Lisa Frank is concerned, she ruled my locker growing up.

I don’t think she needs to lose any more weight, but i get her wanting to shed a few vanity lbs. Lots of BL contestants get really thin by the end and then gain back some weight. But this season some contestants were so big at the beginning i think this finale will be different.

I think her goal of 155 is where she needs to be. Do I think she is fat, no, but we are always the hardest on ourselves and if that is the weight she would feel most comfortable at, then work it girl.

Wait! Lisa Frank isn’t cool anymore?? Guess I have to get a new lunch box now. Crap!

I think that Tara SHOULD have won The Biggest Loser. She looked great, while the winner Helen looked gaunt and unhealthy. (Plus I think she was a yatch for letting her daughter go home instead of her!!) I wish they’d enforce some penalty for dropping below a healthy weight-otherwise it violates the spirit of the show.
Personally I think Tara looks really out of proportion at 139 lbs. Her arms are too skinny in comparison to her enormously muscled calves. She looks great at 164, but then again she’s wearing a very concealing dress…I might feel differently if I saw her whole body.

I was actually just thinking about The Biggest Loser the other day (wow, what an exciting life I lead), especially about Helen who looked kindof sickly at the finale. I wondered if the extreme competition/focus on weight caused any of them to form eating disorders actually, because I know that many people with anorexia just started out by trying to lose weight in a healthy way, which got blown out of proportion.
That said, I think that Tara looks very healthy in the current pic. Her arms do look a bit skinny in the pic from the finale. But, everyone has their own goals, so who are we to say!

Hello! its tara from BL7- i love how people comment on me. its one of the reasons why i never watched my season. I am a sensitive person and didnt want to know what others said, bc i went on ntl tv to change for me. I will never pretend it is easy – bc it isn’t! I try to make best possible choice on daily basis. Anyway thought you all should know I am happy and healthy. I did gain more muscle as I am not afraid to pick up a weight, like I was before season ended (my arms are def better) I am actually getting into tris rev3tri.com i will be doing the entire series. Maybe swimming will help a little – take care all
